ECHS Celebrates Grand Opening of Science Lab!
The ECHS Science Lab officially opened with a green ribbon cutting! On March 3rd, we were pleased to be part of the ceremony that recognized the work La Loma did designing and building an outdoor science class room, with partners Shangri-La Construction getting props for their work indoors. The outdoors portion of the project included our recycled concrete walls, stairs, and floors, as well as various features: from a 1,700 gallon cistern catching rain water from the roof (it’s already full!), to a multi-tank aquaponics system growing tilapia fish and vegetables. We also built curvy raised planter beds from stacked and stuccoed earthbags, installed a plants on wall system, trellises, custom rails, chicken coop, rabbit hutch among other elements. We hope to complete the original vision for the project with a greenhouse, solar panels, wind turbines, and other teachable technologies and systems. We love working with schools to green their campuses, and provide cutting edge educational opportunities for the students. We are proud to be helping raise the next generation of scientists with a focus on ecosystems and sustainability. You can also read more about the grand opening on the Daily Breeze.
