Public Fruit Theater at LACMA
We are excited to complete the construction of our design for a Public Fruit Theater at LACMA, opening November 7, 2010. The Public Fruit theater will open on the culmination of a year long artist in residence collaboration between Fallen Fruit and LACMA. "EATLACMA’s projects consider food as a common ground that explores the social role of art and ritual in community and human relationships." The Public Fruit Theater is a monument to the orange tree, whose groves covered much of Southern California for decades (Los Angeles County was the most agriculturally productive county in the nation from 1900 to 1950). The amphitheater, built of broken concrete, is a reflection of the sidewalks and streets that have covered our agricultural lands. It is crafted in artisinal fashion, dry-stacked and hand picked from local city sources, in our unique "La Loma style." You can see a map of the other gardens on site at LACMA until November 7 here.
