Water conservation will be on all of our minds during this dry and hot time of year, especially in Los Angeles. New laws will limit sprinkler use to Mondays and Thursdays starting June 1. It's not too late to get started on your summer garden, and start by getting rid of your lawn. Grass tends to compete with other plants in your garden by sucking up valuable nutrients and depleting your soil. Why not invest and save your valuable water on growing vegetables, creating a beautiful native plant garden, and more opportunities to spend time outside? Instead of a lawn, you could have herbs, perennials, natives, drought tolerant succulents and wildflowers. Don't also forget tp get rid of those sprinklers, by installing effective drip irrigation. More information on valuble water conservation tips and information on rebates is available at the Department of Public Works.
